Sasha & John Digweed To Headline South West Four!!

Monday, March 30th, 2009

sw4-main-stage-1SASHA & JOHN DIGWEED (BACK TO BACK) – UK FESTIVAL EXCLUSIVE

The heat has been cranked up this summer as London’s No.1 Dance festival South West Four can reveal that dance legends Sasha & John Digweed will be this year’s official headline act. Playing a UK Festival Exclusive B2B set, SW4 is the only festival in the whole of the UK where you’ll get to see both DJs playing together. Sasha & John Digweed will be closing the day’s events with a climatic final set on the main stage, as the day turns to night and the real fireworks begin!

2009 marks the 6th year of South West Four and the 5th year in a row for Bedrock supremo John Digweed. Quite simply a SW4 legend, John has played all but one of our festivals on the Common and remains very excited about making it 5 not out this summer… “It’s fantastic to headline this year’s SW4” says John. “I’ve been very lucky to play at nearly all of them, so this should be extra special. It’s a very well organised event that brings out a really cool crowd, and the line-ups always feature the cream of electronic talent. It’s not often you get to play a big outdoors gig in the centre of London and each year it seems to sell out quicker!!

Having featured in DJ Magazine’s Top 10 poll for 10 consecutive years, John has pioneered the progressive and electronic house movement since the early 90’s, via his beloved Bedrock parties and headline-grabbing shows all over the world. It was way back in 1993 when a certain Alexander Coe (aka Sasha) heard his demo that the pair first met… and the rest as they say is history. The duo’s residency at Twilo and the Delta Heavy Tour in the US are the stuff of legend and their epic Northern Exposure CD (released 1996) is still widely regarded as the greatest mix compilation ever made.

Sasha has a similar up bringing in music to John, and like him was instrumental in evolving the progressive house scene. A Grammy nominated artist and acclaimed producer, Sasha has released some of the most memorable compilations of all time through cult labels Renaissance and Global Underground. He’s recently released the Invol2ver album through GU and was one of the first DJs to use Ableton technology in his sets. South West Four holds a special place in his heart having headlined the first ever festival back in 2004. He was back by popular demand to headline again in 2005 and now after 3 year absence… the mighty Sasha is back at SW4 this summer, and back with John Digweed!

“We don’t do that many festival shows together” continues John, “so we’re both really looking forward to SW4 as London is the clubbing capital in the UK and the crowd really know their music. We never really plan anything, but I’m sure there will be some surprises in our set!”

Proton and Frisky Radio Join Forces and WMC 2009 Gets Hit with SCANDAL!

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

scandal-200x200For the first time in Internet dance radio history, giants friskyRadio and Proton Radio come together in Miami to create SCANDALThursday, March 26, 2009.

For over six years, each station has thrown its own successful party at WMC in Miami, FL.  Both stations’ audiences and artist base come from all corners of the world, so friskyRadio and Proton Radio have always believed WMC is a special way to connect with listeners, artists, and friends, face-to-face.

Inspired by their commonalities in purpose rather than their differences, the two stations decided to “reach across the aisle” and doing a WMC party together in 2009 brings these faces from around the globe even closer together.

In an unprecedented move, the two long-time rivals are glad to extend the peace pipe and burn something special for this year’s WMC revelers. The result – SCANDAL!

To celebrate the newly united spirit, Proton and friskyRadio have decided that SCANDAL! will feature headliners who have shows on both stations. Many listeners may not realize the stations share several residents, most of whom are the best and brightest stars in the dance scene.

SCANDAL! hits South Beach – Thursday, March 26, 2009.
Get ready for fun, mayhem and the best music that friskyradio and Proton Radio have to offer.

Featuring:

Jody Wisternoff,  Miss Nine

FreQ Nasty drops Fabric mix + plans new artist album + Free Exclusive download!

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Bass culture pioneer FreQ Nasty weaves a Fabric mix and readies his much anticipated new artist album + free download of unreleased new track!

FreQ Nasty’s back and he’s pushing a new sound that’s destroying underground clubs around the world. Continually shape shifting under the wide umbrella of bass culture, FreQ Nasty forever stays one-step ahead of its ongoing hype-fuelled evolution. From garage, breaks to dubstep FreQ Nasty’s at the forefront of the freshest beats around. Armed and ready for battle, FreQ Nasty comes at you with a hot new mix for Fabric and an exclusive free download of “Peacemaker (DUB)” – a brand new track culled from his much-anticipated new artist album.

Bridging the gap between the most current scenes in London’s bass culture, FreQ Nasty rumbles with underground thunder on the recently released FABRICLIVE 42, a staggering showcase of some of the rawest breaks-led beats around. Evading the pitfalls of a genre-controlled mix, yet at the same time avoiding the stop-start feel of a “mash up” mix, on FABRICLIVE 42 he’s imaginatively arranged a flowing, tightly connected blend of FreQ-y tracks. With the bass heavy stomp of L-Vis 1990’s UK take on Baltimore house, the blistering shatter of TRG and several of his own storming productions, including his Santogold hit “Creator,” the mix is a terror to bassbins worldwide.

“The Fabric mix is a kind of reference to some of the stuff I have loved recently and where I’ve intersected it in the past in my own work. There’s a ton of good music out there right now; sick beats and heavy bass lines of all styles, and the mix is a snap shot, pieces of music at a place and time that move me. The album is trying to bring it together in one place and make sense of it, to digest it all and spit it out as something that is more than the sum of its parts. Essence d’FreQ for 2009,” FreQ Nasty says.

Speaking of sick beats and heavy bass – that what FreQ Nasty vs Propa Tingz – “Peacemaker (DUB)” is all about. This is the dub version of a track appearing on FABRICLIVE 42 and it offers the most current look into FreQ Nasty’s sound and his forthcoming new artist album. This collaboration with hot up and comer Propa Tingz starts innocently enough with signature ragga piano stabs before the bass shoots off and rips the cheeks right off your face. It’s quintessential FreQ Nasty and a must-listen.

When not making music FreQ Nasty spends his time trying to change the world for the better. In 2007, he co-founded www.giveback.net to encourage artists and their fans to create positive change in the world. Not only does it allow users post links to articles about the news and events they are passionate about (and not often available in the mainstream media), it also facilitates campaigns to allow musicians to use exclusive and rare tracks to raise awareness and money for the issues they care about. Check out FreQ’s campaign with Michael Franti of Spearhead, or the Water Of Life download album featuring Damien Marley to help support the creation of vital clean water supplies to a village in Ethiopia. Both are free downloads at www.Giveback.net
