Sasha & John Digweed To Headline South West Four!!

Monday, March 30th, 2009

sw4-main-stage-1SASHA & JOHN DIGWEED (BACK TO BACK) – UK FESTIVAL EXCLUSIVE

The heat has been cranked up this summer as London’s No.1 Dance festival South West Four can reveal that dance legends Sasha & John Digweed will be this year’s official headline act. Playing a UK Festival Exclusive B2B set, SW4 is the only festival in the whole of the UK where you’ll get to see both DJs playing together. Sasha & John Digweed will be closing the day’s events with a climatic final set on the main stage, as the day turns to night and the real fireworks begin!

2009 marks the 6th year of South West Four and the 5th year in a row for Bedrock supremo John Digweed. Quite simply a SW4 legend, John has played all but one of our festivals on the Common and remains very excited about making it 5 not out this summer… “It’s fantastic to headline this year’s SW4” says John. “I’ve been very lucky to play at nearly all of them, so this should be extra special. It’s a very well organised event that brings out a really cool crowd, and the line-ups always feature the cream of electronic talent. It’s not often you get to play a big outdoors gig in the centre of London and each year it seems to sell out quicker!!

Having featured in DJ Magazine’s Top 10 poll for 10 consecutive years, John has pioneered the progressive and electronic house movement since the early 90’s, via his beloved Bedrock parties and headline-grabbing shows all over the world. It was way back in 1993 when a certain Alexander Coe (aka Sasha) heard his demo that the pair first met… and the rest as they say is history. The duo’s residency at Twilo and the Delta Heavy Tour in the US are the stuff of legend and their epic Northern Exposure CD (released 1996) is still widely regarded as the greatest mix compilation ever made.

Sasha has a similar up bringing in music to John, and like him was instrumental in evolving the progressive house scene. A Grammy nominated artist and acclaimed producer, Sasha has released some of the most memorable compilations of all time through cult labels Renaissance and Global Underground. He’s recently released the Invol2ver album through GU and was one of the first DJs to use Ableton technology in his sets. South West Four holds a special place in his heart having headlined the first ever festival back in 2004. He was back by popular demand to headline again in 2005 and now after 3 year absence… the mighty Sasha is back at SW4 this summer, and back with John Digweed!

“We don’t do that many festival shows together” continues John, “so we’re both really looking forward to SW4 as London is the clubbing capital in the UK and the crowd really know their music. We never really plan anything, but I’m sure there will be some surprises in our set!”

New Label Balearic Masters Release First Single ‘Amnesia Terrace’

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Jordi Villalta
Amnesia Terrace
Original Mix / Legaz & Spider AKA Majorkings Remix

Label: Balearic Masters

Welcome to Balearic Masters, a fresh new label bringing you the best sounds from the current cream of the crop of Balearic-based DJ’s & Producers.

Kicking off this first release is Amnesia resident Jordi Villalta with the aptly titled Amnesia Terrace. Villalta has lived in Ibiza for nearly 15 years with his musical career starting at local radio station Cadena Cien Ibiza that then led to some big positions at various stations on the white isle. Looking after the dance music policies and interviewing some of the major hitters of the dance scene such as Carl Cox, MANDY, Tiësto and Roger Sanchez, Jordi is renowned for his DJing as much as his radio presence. Playing at some of the biggest clubs in Ibiza including DC10, Space and Privilege, Jordi is currently resident at Amnesia’s longest running weekly night, People from Ibiza.

The Original Mix is a Tech House monster, think swing beats, swirly arpeggios, a hard as nails kick drum and bassline that bounces everything along towards some pretty massive build ups, the sort of record that will tear the roof off the Amnesia Terrace. Judging by the YouTube videos, Jordi has certainly road tested this tune to full affect. Also accompanied by Majorca residents Legaz & Spider AKA Majorkings on remix duties, expect this EP to make a firm dent in the Balearic’s thriving scene plus the rest of Europe and beyond.

With the next EP planned very soon, keep your eyes and ears peeled for further announcements from Balearic Masters!

Bedrock 10 – Mixed by John Digweed

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

RELEASE DATE: NOVEMBER TBC 2008
LABEL: BEDROCK RECORDS

THIS IS THE BIG ONE!

To coincide with the tenth anniversary of Bedrock parties in London and the
fast approaching 10th anniversary of Bedrock Records; John Digweed releases
the triple-disc mix ‘Bedrock 10 Past, Present and Future’ through his own
Bedrock Records. Compiling and mixing a stunning collection of remixes that
shine new light on the label’s back catalogue alongside the cuts that are
currently representing the distinguished Bedrock sound.

From its inception in Hastings during the mid-nineties and subsequent
progression to Heaven on 8th October 1998, the Bedrock parties have
consistently been a byword for forward-thinking, underground electronic
music that attracted the absolute cream of national and international DJ’ing
talent (as well as being THE industry hang out). The list is almost endless,
but among those appearing over the years, Sasha, Carl Cox, Danny Tenaglia,
Josh Wink, Danny Howells, James Zabiela, Deep Dish, Hernan Cattaneo, Darren
Emerson, Basement Jaxx and Xpress 2 have all rocked the Bedrock dance floor
at one stage or another. Reaching far further than it’s UK-based home,
Bedrock has touched down at festivals and club nights across the globe, with
America, Japan, Ibiza, Romania, Australia and Dubai just a few of those
countries lucky enough to absorb the full Bedrock experience.

Around the same time as those initial parties at Heaven, John set about
creating a label that would fit the ethos of the club night’s innovative and
cutting edge music policy and Bedrock Records was born. Even in it’s
embryonic stage around 1999 the imprint seemed destined to set the dance
music stratosphere ablaze with its maiden release ‘Heaven Scent’ garnering
an almost unanimous ‘instant classic’ billing. The highlights to date have
been almost innumerable but Science Departments ‘Persuasion/Repercussion’,
Steve Lawler’s ‘Rise In’ and Saint’s and Sinner’s ‘Pushin’ Too Hard’ and Guy
Gerber’s ‘Stoppage Time’ as well as albums from Pole Folder and Suicide
Sports Club have all provided some truly standout moments. More recently the
future of the label has been masterfully entrusted to Israeli wonder-kid Guy
J, who’s soon to be released debut artist album ‘Esperanza’ serves as a
fantastic snapshot of where Bedrock Records is at in 2008.

So to ‘Bedrock 10 Past present and Future ` and to honour this massive
occasion John has drafted in a careful selection of remix heavyweights to
shed new light on some of the labels biggest tracks along with a tidy
fistful of the labels freshest output all blended to perfection in the
inimitable John Digweed mixing style.

CD1 delves deep into the Bedrock mines and strikes gold with Tom Mangan
giving his mind-blowing 2001 cut ‘Chutney’ a hefty face-lift, Steve Lawler
re-interpreting his own ‘Rise In’ and Danny Howells doing a tasty number on
Science Department’s ‘Repercussion’. The disc culminates in M.O.D.E. turning
in a fine remix of Bedrock’s ‘Heaven Scent’ which is no mean feat given the
tracks gargantuan standing.

CD2 is a more full on and peak time. This CD faces forward whilst
reflectively signalling a nod to past greats. Guy J makes his presence felt
among his long-established, production contemporaries on ‘Lunar’, Bruce
Aisher takes on and wins against Saints and Sinners ‘Pushin Too Hard’ and
Christian Smith demonstrates a lesson in subtly destroying a dance floor
with his summer-smash ‘Flyertalk’ and Josh wink under his size 9 Moniker
delivers an unreal remix of ‘Chutney’. CD3 is an Unmixed affair and features
original tracks from Funk d Void, Jim Rivers and Charlie May (Pindrop) and
also features unreleased remixes from Guy Gerber, POB, and Chab to name a
few, making this not just a bonus disc, but an absolute must have for
Bedrock fans. Bedrock 10 perfectly encapsulates the essence of one of the
world’s leading labels by refusing to simply compile a ‘greatest hits’ CD
and therefore continuing in the pioneering spirit on which the label is
based.

“From its humble beginnings in Hastings to the bright lights of London,
Bedrock has come a long way. For the last 10 years, I have been very lucky
to work with some amazing DJs and producers, promote some memorable parties
and experience club land at its best. This album reflects some of the labels
highlights exclusively remixed and future club classics. I hope you enjoy it
as much as I did putting it together”

Sander van Doorn releases Apple onto Nebula, mixes from Marcus Schossow & Bart B More.

Monday, September 15th, 2008

SANDER VAN DOORN – APPLE  (Nebula/EMI)

Original Mix / Bart B More Remix / Marcus Schossow Remix

Sander van Doorn drops his latest single Apple to be taken from his critically acclaimed debut long player Supernaturalistic and following on from his massive single hit list; Grasshopper, By Any Demand, Riff and Pura Vida when this lad drops beats, expect dance floor devastation.

Apple is a frantic, stripped back yet driving, minimal tech- trance monster. With a reverberated riff that cleverly goes backwards and forwards throughout the whole track, a growling yet subtle bassline and plenty of build ups and wonky arpeggios, Apple will appeal to a wide range of DJs and music fans alike.

Marcus Schossow provides a gritty electro-tinged remake of the original with a tough riff whilst fellow Dutchman Bart B More compliments the industrial parts from Apple by adding lush synth build-ups and a funky deep bass line, keeping the pace a little less frenzied than the original.

With heavy support coming in from Armin van Buuren, Judge Jules, Pete Tong and Ferry Corsten to name a few, expect this release to blow up at a rave / dance tent / club near you!
