RE: to you: what is the Underground Sound?

What i think of the 'underground sound' :in 1990 when i was 17 years old,the music style 'New-Beat' faded away and a new generation of 'partypeople' or houselovers started to grow(damn, that was 18 years ago)i started to visit some brand new opened clubs where they only would play house music! For me,my friends and all the others of 1000 young people it was a new expirience and a way of life!Whith the raise of that housecommunity and all those new clubs who stayed open till midday and the new (dance)-drug called 'E' or extasy was giving a lot of trouble! Our gouvernement (i live in Belgium) decide to make a war against the whole house scene! Many clubs needed to close their doors, after the many razzia's in the clubs by enormous policeofficers, and after finding a lot of drugs on the dancefloors en finding out that 99% of the customers where intoxicated by speed or xtc! After a first positif razzia, the mayors decided to close some clubs for a short period:by a second or third positif razzia, many clubowners were forced to close the doors forgood !From this point clubowners where affraid of loosing their club and income, the partycommunity and houselovers where affraid for those many roadblocks and carfouilles,by special dogs, trained for finding drugs!Or the risk to get cought by a positive drugstest when a razzia took place! The result of this was that people started to go to private housepartie's,some where in the woods, others in empty byldings, others in caves from houses most of them were illegal and were called 'underground' partie's.Mostly the music styles there were more agressive, more acid sounds and hard pumping beats called 'underground music'.This was not the music style that you would find in those commercial houseclubs. Also on those 'underground' parties you were able to see some good live acts, performed by computers and analog synths or sequencers(like the tb303 from roland)What also make the difference whith underground music and the music you hear now = we did not had internet, mostly of the time nobody knew the name of the songs or producers.Tracklists?what's a tracklist?you where there to have fun, dance till you drop and let those pumping beats take you to an other planet:your planet!and now...everybody has internet, everybody can make a party, you even dont have to be a good dj:those 'dj tools' with beatmatching features...even my cat can play if she wanted.Ok ,here i stop:looking back to those years gives my a satisfaying feeling coz YES,i know what 'underground music' is,I was there and I was part of that Underground Community! so,folks,i hope you like my story and sorry for my bad English, greets ...from Belgium!

Like some others have said in this thread, I'm not sure underground really exists per se. I wouldn't say that it ever really existed. It varies depending on who you are what you would usually listen to. For example, to many Americans Armin van Buuren and Tiesto are still "underground", but for those of us that have been in the scene awhile we can't really come up with a better analogy for dance music pop stars.

I think a better term to use is innovative. It's a much less relativistic term because you can actually find other tunes to prove or disapprove a tracks innovativeness.

I dunno, from what I read on that wiki link there is no scientific evidence to support this. Sorry folks, cool idea, but probably BS.

You can make logical arguments that there is a God or there isn't a god.

You can make logical arguments that this system of government is better than that one.

What are your thoughts?

Sensorship is bullshit IMHO, especially in the public domain. Life isn't rose- tinted all the time... and the masses usually keep things on track without the need for it when given the chance.

I suspect most of you feel the same way, right?

Now the real question is whether this post gets deleted, or does it provoke some constructive thought?

why have you decided this thread is about to be deleted???

Have you read anything by Plato?

especially about Socrates. You can learn a lot from reading those texts! Socrates didnt consider himself to be a teacher, he used questions to help people teach themselves. He was a very intelligent person!
