Proton Music was founded in April of 2005 by Proton Radio director and Particles host Jason Wohlstadter (aka Jay Epoch). The inspiration for the label came from it's first release, "Fingerpaint" by Digital Witchcraft, which at the time was having trouble finding a home.

The label aims to capture the variety of genres played on Proton Radio while keeping true to Jay Epoch's musical taste: atmospheric and melodic electronica. Visit ProtonRadio.com for the official Proton Music website with detailed information on all our releases and extended previews of all our tracks.

Proton Music releases biweekly on Beatport, iTunes, and other digital retailers.

PROTON0053 Orang Asli - Shake the Malay (Mar 20th, 2008)

This EP has been a long time coming. Written by Icelandic duo Jón Frímannsson (Asli) and Atli Mar Thorvaldsson (Orang Volante), the first tune on it was done nearly two years ago but the latest one just a few months back. Some parts are done with analog gear, others on the computer. Some samples are from Icelandic jazz songs, others from this bloke screaming on about Reykjavik. Jonfri doesn't even know where they recorded him. Or maybe Atli knows. Sometimes they're in a bit of a haze.

The Malay Valley EP is a 3 track deep house vs. techno. Take your pick, and enjoy.

1. Malay Valley (Original Mix)
2. Shakers (Original Mix)
3. Reykjavik (Original Mix)

"interesting production work with a jazzy side" - 3.0 / 5

Proton shapes up to hit us with a new tech house number. Orang Asli - Shake the Malay is an EP from Reykjaviks finest tech house duo and no doubt they will be gaining support from this globally too. You might recognize Asli as his tunes have received support from the likes of Laurent Garnier and this looks set to follow. Kicking off with "Malay Valley" this is rooted firmly in its genre but mixed in is a sweet blend of jazz and swing. The track has this rotation of sound about it and is hell.... 4/5 [Simon Latham]
