Ben Camp - Oh My God, its Ben Camp!
Released: July 19th, 2007
Reviewed: 9/10
Label head, Dj, Producer Ben Camp brings us this seventh release of his label Human Nature Music with a trio of tracks with a wide variety of moods for Djs to pick from. Oh My God It's Ben Camp! Ep explores analog landscapes and funky bass lines touching on both electro and tech flavors of house. Every thing from flowing grooves to catchy melodies makes this an excellent addition to any collection or set.
Oh My God It's Ben Camp! the first track in this Ep is a very slow groovy track. It starts out with some percussion a snare and a very funky analog bass. It then progresses to a crawling funky beat with plenty of analog madness to decorate. The beat enters an on off kick/snare pattern, which though slow is driven enough to make the crowd dance. During the break the only thing to die down is the main bass line keeping the track very danceable. I would not play this track at peak hour, though it’s perfect for a club if the theme is also slow crawling electro-clash. And well it would also be a fine track to play if Ben Camp ever walked in on your gig.
Our second track to this fine EP is Prague Rock. This very soulful and dance driven track is perfect for any electro or tech house set. Combining thoughtful glitchiness and epic synthlines, Prague Rocks will make the crowds bounce and make Djs happy. It starts with a groove and no beat presenting a challenge for experienced Djs and opening opportunities for those that are learning the ropes. This explodes into a relatively slow but very bouncy beat decorated with ambiances, and a slowly creeping uplifting synth line, all of it being pushed forward by a deep progressive bass line. The automatizations over the bass line give this track much depth as do the effects over the snares. Over all this is a solid production by Mr. Ben Camp.
The third track and the most crowd driven of the three is called select start. Starting with a full blown beat this track is danceable from the start. The beat is joined by crisp hi-hats and a soulful analog melody. The bass line is deep and minimal, and is decorated with some rich delay and reverb. The melody alternates with another arpeggiated pattern which builds up the energy of the track. This then breaks down into the first melody including variations towards the middle of the track. The beat becomes simpler for a few patterns but does not loose momentum and then.... those hi-hats come in cutting through the air like knives and setting your dance floor ablaze!!! I loved this track even though it's almost eleven minutes long!!! this is easily the best track in the release and a must play!
