Micah - Antiquated Reliquary
Proton Music have brought back an old favourite of mine,
Micah Lukasewich brings us more tantalising melodic prog and once again reasserts that he sure is one talented guy.
One of the most memorable productions Micah Lukasewich has made, in my opinion of course, is the absolute classic remix of
Bent – As You Fall (Micahs Swollen Booty Mix) as featured on the first Balance Series C.D. mix compilation (mixed by Chris Fortier).
Listen to that and you will understand where the bar is set for Antiquated Reliquary, yep, its very, very high indeed.
The E.P. starts with
Greenstone (Sad Mix)
If we had to pigeon hole Greenstone it would have to be marked as a progressive breaks track that starts with a simple break and then builds in both melodies and atmosphere, but never to a point of urgency, more of a soothing wash of aural deliciousness and a perfect early set track that I will gladly play.
This has an overall chilled vibe but the production and effects are second to none, the simple echo guitar at the break adds to the vibe and overall this is a nice well made proggy breaks track that you will not bore of anytime soon.
Matter & Light – In a similar prog breaks style as Greenstone Matter & Light is a little more of a mid set track for me, starting off with the howling guitar that sounds a little like a wolf the track grows with layered effects and well programmed synths creating an overall atmosphere with the slight quiet cowbells before the break, it gives me the impression it is taking you on a little story.
Overall this track is full of drama, just how I like it, and will be played the next time I’m out that’s for sure, if there was one track that would make you buy the whole E.P. in my opinion, its Matter & Light.
The melodies and overall vibe make this a bit of a future classic, I’m certain.
The Halls – this is more of an experimental track that seems to borrow so many different things from so many different genres I’m having trouble trying to put it into words. Proton music have added samples on this page so click play and you will know what I mean ;)
It has a hint of samba in the beats, some old school reminiscent strings along with deep progressive acid bassline don’t get me wrong, its another well made track and I like it, its not really what you would find me mixing with in a club but I'm sure you might catch me enjoying it in my car or at home on my iPod etc.
The Heist – another twist to this varied E.P and another difficult to pigeonhole track, this one borrows percussion and feel more from jazz, although the tempo is faster than the other tracks you would never really know, The Heist, like all the tracks on this E.P. is a well produced and melodic track with a different angle to the others, as with
The Halls this is a slightly experimental track that you would find me nodding away to at home or in my car rather than playing out.
Overall another class release from Proton and Micah, if you like your tunes more varied and daring this release is a true connoisseurs delight.
