Stan Kolev - Flashback (Featuring remix by Eelke Kleijn) (Ready Mix Records)
Release Date: March 4th, 2008
Reviewed: 4/5
User Rating: 3.7/5

Starting his dj career in 1996 and releasing his first records in 1999, Stan Kolev (of Bulgaria now residing in Miami) has been the brain child behind projects such as Casa Flava, The Deep, Sonic Vibe, and Future as well as others in addition to having many releases on multiple labels. One of the “main stream” sources you may recognize is CSI Miami where he has had a track featured for the second year in a row now. His style and sounds seem to at times be the definition of progressive house with his rhythms and melodies capture its essence. Stan’s latest release titled “Flashback” which is scheduled to release March 4, 2008 unites Stan with Eelke Kleijn (a premier producer of tech, deep, and prog house in Europe with over 120 works under his belt).

Flashback (Side Chain Mix) – kicking it off with a reminiscence of a long lost trancie song…..the melody grabs you and suck you into to a building bassy melody. Some good synth work brings it airy atmosphere alive and the fx work just finalizes it. Some very well placed trancy vocal loops give Flashback a nice distinguished character.

Flashback (Eelke Kleijn’s Remix) – I must say using the warpy fx on the original melody definitely bring this remix to life and give it a whole different feel. With the track dropping back to just the basics a few times through the play it leaves a lot of potential for layering and mixing / cutting in and out. There is a almost wood block sounding loop in the track that doesn’t really seem to come out until the end that I would have like to heard more of throughout the track….otherwise very solid remix. Definitely a lot of fun to play with and listen to!
