Joel Armstrong - Hey Hey Hey (Dot Dot Records)
Release Date: March 10th, 2008
Reviewed: 3/5
User Rating: 4.0/5

Joel Armstrong of Vancouver BC is influenced by the like of Shiloh, The Chemical Brothers, Cicada, & The Sneaker pimps to name a few. With sounds of house / techno / melodic he brings his latest release titled “Hey Hey Hey” (released March 10, 2008 on Dot Dot records) with a remix by Bastard’s of Funk & Sonic Union.

Starting in the early 90’s Sweden based Bastard’s of Funk drew influences from such likes as Carl Cox. With productions ranging from techno to ambient to drum and bass he focuses mainly on house and its varieties.

Sonic Union (also of Sweden) has been a dj and producer for over 10 years and has had support on his tracks from names such as Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Anthony Papa, and Hernan Cattaneo to name a few.

Hey Hey Hey (original) – creating sounds of melodic goodness is what this track does with it subtle bass beat, minimalistic loops, and overall mellow sounds it lulls you into a happy smiling state of mind. With a deep / minimalistic / electro house sound John Armstrong has done a good job of creating a strong original release.

Hey Hey Hey (Bastard’s of Funk & Sonic Union remix) – adding more tech to an already semi techy song gets you the remix by Bastard’s of Funk & Sonic Union of Hey Hey Hey. This remix has a little more edginess to it…but not a whole lot. Great minimal moments in the song definitely set it apart from the original and help you to appreciate the rest of it.
