Orang Asli - Shake the Malay (Proton Music)
Release Date: March 20th, 2008
Reviewed: 4/5
User Rating: 3.9/5

Proton shapes up to hit us with a new tech house number. Orang Asli - Shake the Malay is an EP from Reykjaviks finest tech house duo and no doubt they will be gaining support from this globally too. You might recognize Asli as his tunes have received support from the likes of Laurent Garnier and this looks set to follow. Kicking off with "Malay Valley" this is rooted firmly in its genre but mixed in is a sweet blend of jazz and swing. The track has this rotation of sound about it and is hell-bent of being sure the background gets to offer every expression. This offers a real laidback coolness, yet written with simplicity in mind. Shakers adds a real deep bass, and you can keep in mind the previous feel, but this offering has a more live jazzy feel about it, the sound selection is sweet and the offer all production faultless. Reykjavik is the final part, this enters with a more Jamaican groove about it, the synth work sets a little more of a deep house setting and fuses into a nice blend. Proton in this field seem to make good selection with this pack and if indeed tech house continues to branch then this is clear cut example of what can be done.
