Solarity - Elements / Relentless (Morphosis Records)
Release Date: July 4th, 2008
Reviewed: 5/5
User Rating: 4.6/5

A good melody in dance music is hard to find, but Morphosis Records has been finding them in spades throughout the progressive world and landing them for the label. The debut EP from Solarity is no exception and packs a big room punch, no doubt why it's already been getting play from Ferry Corsten.

Proving that the era of good progressive trance is not at all over, "Elements" lingers on beautiful pads spiked with tons of arppegiated synth work and a classically powerful bassline. The beats are kept simple to allow the big melodies to shine. It's a delightful tune to listen to in a club or on an iPod but it would be best in a giant field.

"Relentless" is peak time progressive at its best with ethereal atmospherics and hypnotic chords and stabs. Complete with an immense breakdown that will move a crowd of thousands, the Solarity boys throw in spices of electro house to punch up eardrums. A complete winner.

The Yvel & Tristan remix of "Elements" takes the big chords and expansive atmosphere of the original, simmers them with a good wine, and reduces the track to its essential flavors. Much more mellow in its approach, the remix is a small room and classy affair. There's a comfortable allure in the stripped down percussion and unique flow.

Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman have a lot to be proud of with this release. It's one of the strongest debuts I've heard in a while and a party well worth the cost of admission.
