Proton's reputation in dance has seen changes since those underground net radio days, so as a label growing out from this, it came of no surprise the standard they brought to the table or even our decks. In truth from the radio shows to the label we have seen alot of respected people come from them and so the label continues its legacy. Summer Particles could be just what they need for mainstream success. In fact, respected UK labels might need to watch out. This should translate well across to the dancefloor, but this could capture the minds of people walking outside of genre dance. The collection is almost iconic, with its laid back charm this could well be the building blocks for club revival we have been waiting for!!
So onto the tunes beginning with
Coretuc - "Hispeed Space Express" this, a nice intro vibe sweeps and stirs as it patiently sweeps riff to riff, expression is the key, the notes almost seem to drift by you on this.
Michael Feihstel - "Lux" added a more ambient feel, swing beat, the beat takes on alot of the work as the track progresses yet it still keeps that summer fresh taste.
Timo Camillo - "Timbuktu" in comes a little more energy progressive with a tribal edge.
Carlo Dall Anese & Fabio Castro "Minigroove" a more tech to minimal sound, plenty of feel and more then a touch of attitude, Urban this is darker then the rest have to offer.
Arthur Deep - "Melchior" captures a mixture of moods but the theme is gliding form of progressive that progressive lovers just wont let go of, Bass on the 1 beat and snare on the 3rd simple but effective.
Micah - "Life with a Robot Butler" you might even form a picture from the title as this kicks with a touch of dark tech, but then builds to a nice house floorgroover.
Royal Sapien - "Drifting", once again RS proves he will not be put into a genre box, this injects all forms of dance as he slowly stirs it round, forming his own quite personal vision of dance.
Gerwin Koudijs - "On Change" a jazzy electric piano tune builds into a sweet progressive number.
MattRowan - "HotSteppin (SoliquidRemix)" so much filtering :), breakbeat backdrop, this is a big floor tune, a real dancing number.
Mango - "Sayonara" ending the collection is a sweet floor number, a real optimistic sound to it, feel good factor, even if we have heard the the plunky analogue chord riff, this really does give a positive charge.
My final thoughts are a positive note, good compilations become a good lesson. Summer Particles offers this and will for some time to come!
